The Maveerar Naal (Heroes Day) 2009 was commemorated Sunday evening in New York, USA. The event started with hoisting of US national flag and Tamil Eelam national flag by the Maveerar family members.
Thereafter the Maveerar family members lit the sacrificial flame for the heroes who have laid down their lives for the mother land and everyone joined in the prayer for the martyrs and the civilians who died due to war.
The event was featured with a series of cultural programme to mark the Heroes day. Starting with the Maveerar Day Anjali dance, the artistic tribute to the fallen heroes was followed by Tamil Eelam Band, Maveerar songs, dances, poems and drama.
Mr.Rudrakumaran Viswanathan, the key note speaker of the Heroes Day, in his speech elaborated on Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam. Dr.Ilankovan, Dr.Jeyalingam and Dr.Thayaparan also spoke at the event.
The event came to an emotional end with the song 'Nambungal Tamil Eelam Naalai kidaikkum' (Believe, Tamil Eelam will be achieved tomorrow).
