Westminster Grinds To A Halt During Protest

E-mail Print PDF

Traffic in Westminster has been brought to a standstill as hundreds of protesters stage a sit-in around the Houses of Parliament.

Around 500 Tamil supporters calling for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka pushed past police lines in Parliament Square this morning. They have taken up positions sitting in the middle of the road between the square and Whitehall.

Police have diverted traffic and closed the approaches to Parliament Square from Westminster Bridge and Whitehall. The main Carriage Gates entrance to the Houses of Parliament has also been closed off.

Police are negotiating with the protesters to try to get them to move onto grass so roads can be reopened.

Tamil supporters, including several hunger strikers, have been camped in Parliament Square since last month.

Britts Take it to the next level

Hello Britts, I can understand your feelings about this, but it is your queen who brought this upon us. How about you ask your queen if she would do anything to stop this? You folks (Britts) should take it to the next level like sitting infront of Buckingham Palace and having your voices be heard. God Bless You.
