German Tamils were conducting a series of demonstrations against human rights violations in Sri Lanka from April 7th in Dusseldorf.

Even on the third day (9th April) of the demonstration approximately 4,000 Tamils participated. The demonstration started in Cologne and proceeded to the parliament. The demonstrators were carrying placards reading, "Stop Tamil Genocide," "End the War'" and "Save Tamils".

They were demanding an immediate and definitive ceasefire and called on the Government to use it's diplomatic pressure on Sri Lanka.

Finally all the demonstrators gathered in front of the parliament, there were speeches and songs about the humanitarian catastrophe in Sri Lanka. They conducted dramas demonstrating the human rights violations that is taking place in Vanni, Northern Sri Lanka (see photo).

Rund 4000 Tamilen auf der Demo in Düsseldorf

Etwa 500 Polizeibeamte waren im Einsatz. Die Tamilen protestierten gegen Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Sri Lanka. "Stoppt den Genozid an Tamilen" hieß es auf einem Flyer der durch einen Flieger, in ganz Köln und Düsseldorf, flug. Diese Demonstration wurde von der "Tamilischen Frauenorganisation in Deutschland" organisiert.Am Ende versammelten sich die Menschen vor dem Landtag. Auf einer Bühne fand z.B. eine Rede, ein Lied auf deutsch gesungen von einer jungen Tamilin und einige Schauspielstücke statt.
 
Die Forderungen von den Tamilen sind sofortigen und endgültigen Waffenstillstand. Ebenso forderten sie Deutschland auf druck auf die sri lankische Regierung auszuüben.
