German Tamils stage hunger strike after a week long demonstrations

German Tamils after a weeklong demonstration against Tamil genocide in SriLanka, now on hunger strike in duesseldorf.

The demonstration in Germany started on 7th of April as part of the ongoing worldwide protest by Tamil Diaspora against Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka. The protestors were conducting street dramas and through various other performances were drawing the international attention on the humanitarian situation in Vanni.
 
After weeklong demonstrations in various forms now they have staged hunger strike based on five demands.

14 men and women of different ages are on a hunger strike from 14th of April. The hunger strike started with Tamil tradition of lighting lamp and inner prayer. 

The Tamils on hunger strike are demanding for immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sri Lanka, access for NGOs and media in to Vanni, immediate humanitarian assistance to reach the people in Vanni, peace talk with LTTE, and to allow all detained Tamils to go back and settle in their native place.

Nivedha Puvaneswaran, Ranjani Selvamanikkam, Mary Thresa Soosaippillai, Jeyanthi Geetha Pongalan, Jeyanthini Sooriyakumaaran, Jeyanthi Satheeswaran, Indra Gopal, Vijitha Puvaneswaran, Sarojinidevi Thangaratnam, Seetharam Chadrasekaram, Ganga Sivasubramaniam, Kugadas Devan, Sutharsan Sivananthan, Alex Alexandra are the 14 people on hunger strike.

Attracted by the Tamil's demonstration, German Linkapard Leftist Party member and a journalist visited the hunger strikers; speaking there she said she was amazed by this protest. She appreciated the demonstrators and promised to take the message to her party members and expressed hope that the world would heed to their voice.
