Australian Tamil's hunger strike into fourth day; Melbourne hunger strikers also move to Canberra

The sit in protest which started on Sunday evening in front of Kirribilli house moved to Canberra. The venue of the hunger strike that started on Saturday in Parramatta also moved to Canberra. The protest and fasting are taking place outside Prime Minister’s Canberra residence.

A move is being made to bring the fasting youths in Melbourne also to the same venue. According to a latest report from Tamil National Reporter in Melbourne, three of the four youths, who started the hunger strike yesterday will be joining the other three in Canberra, outside PM's residence. One youth, out of the four was compelled to discontinue the fast on doctor's advice.

The health of the three Australian Tamil Youths from Sydney- Sutha Thanbalasingam, Mathivannan Sinnathurai and Pratheepan Rajathurai, who are on day four of the hunger strike, is rapidly deteriorating.

Dr Pranavan who examined the boys on Tuesday at 7:30pm said, “Their blood sugar level is very low and they are very dehydrated”. “We are very concerned about their kidneys failing,” he added.

However, Sutha who has not heard in months from his mother who is now confined indefinitely in a Sri Lankan government-controlled detention camp and whose father lost a leg through government attacks said, “My family and all the other Tamil civilians in North East Sri Lanka are being bombed constantly. My concern is now for their safety and not my health.” “I hope our Prime Minister can see the humanity overflowing around me,” he said pointing to more than 500 Tamils who are staying with the boys outside Mr. Rudd’s residence in Canberra.

Prime Minister and his office have so-far kept silent. "Why is this? How long does he plan to ignore the grievances of the Tamil community?" ask the protestors.

"The Foreign Minister, Stephen Smith, said he welcomed a 48-hour cessation of hostilities. Why does he welcome something that is not even taking place? Reports from within the conflict zone indicate the government is still continuing its military offensive. Even Reuters has reported that the fighting has not stopped," they Asked.

The LTTE released a statement on Tuesday saying it was willing to enter into political dialogue and a permanent bi-lateral ceasefire. This has already been rejected by the Sri Lankan government.

The statement released by the Australian Tamils 'Fast unto Action' reads:

'The Australian Tamils have conducted and will continue to conduct peaceful protests. Yet the Australian government continues to ignore the Sri Lankan State genocide taking place against the Tamils.'

'The UN has warned of a bloodbath for the 100 000 civilians living in the no-fire zone if the army move into it. This has already happened.'

'KEVIN RUDD MUST NOT CONTINUE TO REMAIN SILENT.'

'Our three youth, must not fall ill because of their resolve to bring about peace in their country and end the killing of their fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers.'

KEVIN RUDD AS OUR PRIME MINISTER, WE URGE YOU AND PLEAD WITH YOU TO RECOGNISE AND ACKNOWLEDGE OUR LEGITIMATE GRIEVANCES.

Dear Brothers,

I couldn’t do, we couldn’t do, but you are doing. This is not going to be in vain. Suffer/starve yourself for our nations’ liberation. Not only god but all the humans, around the world, are with you.
GOD, yes he is very close to you, watching over to pour you with victory. It is not far.
It is only around the corner, dear children.
