Sri Lanka condemns Secretary Clinton's allegations that rape used as a tactic to war in Sri Lanka.
Delivering her speech at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Clinton said that rape was used as a weapon of war in Balkans, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. She added that in too many countries and in too many cases, the perpetrators were not punished, and the impunity encouraged others to commit the same crime.
Media spokesman on National Security, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said at the UN Security Council on Wednesday that the government thoroughly condemns the statement made by Secretary Clinton and sternly rejected the allegation with contempt.
"No group has ever made such a statement at the time when humanitarian operations being conducted against terrorism or at any occasion thereafter," Rambukwella said.
"This statement discredits the Sri Lankan security forces. The facts underlined in the statement have never been discussed at any occasion. The Minister therefore, charges the State Secretary for deliberately making the statement as part of a certain agenda," he said.
