Tamilnadu women group's hunger strike in to third day

E-mail Print PDF

A group of Tamil women, who were concerned about the genocide of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka, have staged a fast unto death in Chennai from last Monday (13th April, 2009). Twenty women are on fast unto death and another hundred are on continuous hunger strike. They are demanding UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to take steps to stop the genocidal war in Sri Lanka.

The group is headed by human rights activist Prof. Saraswathi, and not affiliated to any political or social organisations. Prof. Saraswathi speaking to Tamil National said "we strongly believe only Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi can bring an end this war. She has both the responsibility and power and in a position to end the war, that's why we have put our demand to her. We trust and hope our protest will bring an end to this war"

Initially they staged the hunger strike in Kolathur, at the spot where Muthukumar’s body was kept for public viewing. They selected the spot in remembrance of Muthukumar who gave his life for Eelam Tamils. But the State Police did not give them permission to continue at the site. From second day it was shifted to Marshall Street in Egmore.

Thank you very much for your support for us. I am Sri Lankan tamil, living in a western country. I am so proud of you. i would like share few ideas with whoever read this. If you closely watch what happened within 10 years, you can see how many times Sri Lankan government cheated tamil people, and also cheated International community. Whatever Sri Lankan government says the International community says yes. Actually, Sri Lankan government kills tamils with the silent permission of international world. I think the international world don't give value for our life. They're talking one thing and doing somethingelse.

Thank you very much.

God bless you
